The Book Thief
"this fabulous novel is rich, complicated and wise enough to satisfy a reader of any age"
-The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The book thief is a story about a girl named Liesel, she is taken to a new home because her mother can no longer afford to take care of her or her brother. Through out the book you meet many characters such as Liesel, the protagonist, Rudy, Hans and rosa huberman, and max. This story is narrated by death. The perspective of the story is odd, mainly because of deaths point of view on the world and humans.
The setting of the Book Thief is set in Nazi Germany. World war 2 has just broke out. As Liesel makes her new journey to her new home her brother dies. At this point Liesel steals her first book, The Grave diggers Handbook. From now on when Liesel arrives at her new home she will have terrifying nightmares about her brothers death. when Liesel moves into her new home she suddenly has a new momma and papa. Rosa, her new mom, is a strong, mean person with a huge heart but doesn't show it. Hans, her new dad, is a man of his words. Liesel and him get attached very quickly and have a strong relationship.
In my opinion The Book Thief is an amazing book! It opens a whole new perspective to the world. Deaths point of view of the world and humans gets the reader to think about life and how valuable it is. This book is also great because it is one of the only books I have read about a Germans point of view in world war 2 . It allows us to see and realize that many Germans were victims of world war 2 as well. Not all Germans are evil as they are said to be . The sad part is that it makes us , the readers, realize that there were many Germans living like this during world war 2. This are just a couple of reasons why The Book Thief is an amazing book.
I rate this book 8/10. It is an eye opener and it makes the reader feel many emotions for every character because Markuz Zuzak brings every character to life. I would defiantly recommend this book for any teen and above. This is because the Book Thief is a bit hard to understand and it challenges us as the reader.
